A lifelong entrepreneur, corporate executive, event planner and marketing facilitator, Laura's passion has always been centered in people. And people centered around food.
Although born on the east coast of Canada (Summerside, PEI), Laura grew up in Vancouver amidst the diverse cultures and vibrant communities which led to developing a broad culinary experience. Laura began her family early and moved away from the big city in the mid 2000's into the south Surrey / White Rock community.
Laura has presented at high level fundraising events as keynote speaker, planned televised orchestral productions, delivered management development seminars and programs and a long list of corporate functions.
As Project Manager for two financial institutions in BC and auction Chairperson , Laura further developed skills that fostered the initiative to open The Modern General Store: A much needed gathering place in her community, this was the catalyst in developing the business into specialty food manufacturing for the wholesale specialty foods sector. Always holding true to WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET, Laura built a network of amazing friends and colleagues.
In 2021, Laura relocated to Ontario and re-established the business operations as Modern General Food Group.
MGFG, based in Ottawa Ontario, provides top quality condiments, crostini, savory jellies and cocktail products for domestic and international wholesale specialty food and beverage industry.

Scaling up our business has been a natural progression from the storefront in BC where we developed recipes and honed our creative talents. Curating this lineup of food and beverage items for the specialty food market allows us to share them with a wider audience across Canada and exporting to the USA.
